Diet to Prevent Renal Cancer

A healthy and balanced diet is considered to be the best option for preventing the occurrence of renal cancer. Renal cancer or kidney cancer is considered to be a fatal disease because of its limited availability of treatment. So, it’s better to prevent this disease by following a healthy diet.
Food items that are rich in antioxidants and phytates effectively prevent the occurrence of renal cancer. These compounds also prevent the spread of this cancer.
Fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are a rich source of antioxidants. These antioxidants fight against free radicals that initiate tumour formation in kidneys. Fruits and vegetables also contain numerous anti-inflammatory agents that reduce the chances of cancer occurrence. Fruits such as carrots, tomatoes, apricots are also rich in beta-carotene that helps to fight cancer. Ginger contains a compound known as diallyl sulphide and mushrooms contain polysaccharides, both of which prevent tumour formation. Fruits and vegetables are also a rich source of carotenoids which are effective in preventing renal cancers.
Food Items containing phytates
Phytates prevent the calcification of the renal tissues. They protect the cartilaginous cells and tissues surrounding the kidneys from getting damaged. Calcification is the primary stage of renal cancer. Thus, by preventing calcification, phytates inhibit the spread of cancer. Food items rich in phytates include whole grains, cereals, legumes and nuts.
Food items rich in antioxidants
Antioxidants help to reduce cancer occurrence. Food items such as blueberries, spinach, beets, nuts, legumes and whole grains contain a high percentage of antioxidants. These food items reduce cell damage and prevent the formation of conditions that initiate tumour formation and spread of tumour. They also reduce kidney inflammation and prevent platelet activation necessary to supply blood to the tumours.

Extracts of milk thistle
Milk thistle extracts contain a large amount of flavonolignan compounds called silymarins which are anti-cancer in nature. Silymarins are actually anti-inflammmatory compounds that prevent any kind of kidney swelling due to tumours. They also have antioxidant properties that prevent activation of genes responsible for causing renal cancer.
Low intake of salt and fat
High blood pressure and obesity are the two main causes of renal cancer. By controlling salt consumption, one can control his blood pressure, thereby reducing the chances of having renal cancer. Use spices such as rosemary and turmeric rather than salt to maintain blood pressure level. Lean meats and fish such as salmon contain a high amount of good fats. Good fats help in reducing obesity, a factor responsible for renal cancer. Stay away from junk food such as french fries and burgers and enhance the intake of green leafy vegetables and whole grains to fight renal cancer.
A diet rich in food items that have cancer fighting ingredients is a better way to prevent renal cancer. A kidney cancer diet which includes these ingredients is very effective in controlling the disease
